Charles Barkley turned down a Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce wedding invite because he figured it would be a 'crap show'
He got the invite to the year's biggest wedding and chose golf instead.

July 8, 2026When the guest list for a wedding reads like the green room at a sports network, the name that jumps out is the one who RSVP'd no. Charles Barkley had an invite to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding, the most-photographed ceremony of the year, and he used it to stay home and play golf.
Barkley owned up to the snub Monday on Unfiltered with Ricky Bo and Bill Colarulo on Philadelphia's 97.5 The Fanatic, where he had stopped by to talk about the 76ers trading for Jaylen Brown. Co-host Bill Colarulo figured Barkley wasn't at the wedding because he never got the call. Wrong. He got the call. He just wasn't going.
"I don't go to weddings or funerals," Barkley said. "But I did get an invite, and I politely declined because I thought it was going to be a crap show. I love Travis and Jason, and I've only met Taylor one time, but yeah, I did get an invite. But I said, that's just too much. I just want to hang out and play golf, and I don't want to dress up and all that other stuff. But I appreciate the invitation, it was pretty special."
Quote as transcribed by Awful Announcing, which flagged the interview.
That "crap show" line lands harder when you remember where Barkley usually wants to be. Last month, before Game 3 of the NBA Finals at the same Madison Square Garden, he said there was "ain't no place I'd rather be." A championship crowd at MSG, yes. A black-tie wedding at MSG, apparently a hard pass.
Everybody else showed up
The wedding took place at the Garden on July 3 and has been sold as America's version of a royal wedding, which explains the turnout. Awful Announcing counted a long roster of sports media faces on the guest list, including Jim Nantz, Joe Buck, Pat McAfee, Stephen A. Smith, and Tony Romo. Barkley looked at that same room full of people trying to be seen and decided the coolest move was not being there at all.
For the record, he was complimentary about the whole thing. He called the invite "pretty special," said he loves Travis and his brother Jason Kelce, and kept his one complaint squarely on the dress code and the crowd, not the couple. This is a man who would rather be on a golf cart than a purple carpet, and he is at peace with it.
