Prince Harry is flying to the UK next week without Meghan, Archie, or Lilibet
A formal request for police protection got knocked back, so the Duchess and the kids are sitting out the London leg while Harry works the Invictus countdown solo.

July 5, 2026Harry's coming back to Britain next week. He's coming alone.
The Duke of Sussex will travel to the UK for a run of engagements, and CNN reports that Meghan, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet will not be joining him in London. The sticking point is the same one that has trailed Harry for years: who pays for the security, and whether there is any at all.
The short version
Harry wanted the family along. According to CNN and CBS News, his team submitted a formal request for police protection for Meghan and the children while they were in the country, and was told it would not be granted. No state-funded protection, no family in London. So he is going by himself.
They might still turn up somewhere
Here is the loophole. CNN understands no final call has been made on whether Meghan and the kids could join Harry for events elsewhere in the UK, outside the capital. So a surprise appearance in, say, Birmingham is not off the table. It is London specifically that they are skipping.
Why he is making the trip
The visit is built around Harry's charity slate: Scotty's Little Soldiers, WellChild and the Invictus Games. The anchor is Birmingham, now one year out from hosting the 2027 Invictus Games, the competition for wounded service members that Harry started more than a decade ago. ABC News had already reported the children were not going to appear at public events, so the kids staying home tracks with what was on the table anyway.
The backstory everyone keeps relitigating
Rewind to 2020. Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal life, and the UK's Royal and VIP Executive Committee, RAVEC for short, downgraded Harry's security detail. He has been fighting that ruling in courtrooms and press statements ever since.
A spokesperson for Harry pushed back on the framing this week, saying accommodation had "never been" the issue and pointing to a review that has not happened. Per Today, the spokesperson said the independent Risk Management Board that RAVEC itself decided was necessary last November still has not met: "It is therefore difficult to understand how the proportionality of the current arrangements can credibly be maintained without that independent assessment."
Read plainly, the Sussex camp thinks the current security setup was never properly reviewed, and until it is, they are not comfortable putting the family on UK ground.
What it adds up to
A five-day trip, a founder showing up for his own Games, and an empty chair where the family photo would have gone. Harry gets his Invictus moment. The reunion shots with Archie and Lilibet on a London street will have to wait for a calmer round of negotiating.
