Tom Holland Called Zendaya 'Maree' on a Red Carpet. Turns Out That's Her Middle Name.

One word at the 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' premiere in Rome gave fans a rare peek at the most private couple in Hollywood.

Tom Holland leaned over on a red carpet in Rome this week, tried to get his wife's attention, and called her "Maree." Not Zendaya. Not Z. Maree. The internet did what the internet does and immediately lost its mind.

It happened Tuesday at the Rome premiere of "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," held at Castel Sant'Angelo. Zendaya was mid-conversation with reporters when Holland called out "Maree!" to pull her into a question about where they were headed next. Her answer, for the record: "Giolitti's," the old Roman gelato shop. Cute. Wholesome. Extremely "married couple deciding on dessert."

So why "Maree"?

Because it is, in fact, her name. Zendaya's full name is Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman, and Maree is her middle name. She shares it with her mom, Claire Maree Stoermer, per LADbible. Zendaya dropped the rest of it professionally years ago for the reason you would expect from someone who became a one name star. "I [dropped my last name because I] just thought it was cool, like Cher or Prince," she told Allure back in 2016.

So no, fans were not about to hear "Zendaya Holland." They got something better. They got the name he actually uses when it is just the two of them.

The clip went nuclear

The video of the exchange took off fast. One post, from a fan account run by @myspideyswift, racked up 3.1 million views and 146,000 likes, according to LADbible's tally.

A reply underneath it summed up why people couldn't let it go: "Everyone is obsessing over this but it honestly just show how much of their actual relationship they keep totally hidden. the internet only gets like 5% of what they're actually like together."

That is the whole thing, really. Holland and Zendaya are famously locked down about their private life. They met in 2016 filming "Spider-Man: Homecoming," confirmed they were together in 2021, got engaged in late 2024, and according to Holland they quietly married earlier this year. He let that last part slip himself in an Esquire interview this month, after Zendaya managed to keep it to herself through an entire press tour. So a single middle name on a red carpet counts as a genuine leak by their standards.

Holland has been open about why they guard it so hard. "I've always been really adamant to keep my private life private, because I share so much of my life with the world anyway. We sort of felt robbed of our privacy," he told GQ in 2021, referring to the paparazzi shot of the two of them kissing in a car that outed the relationship in the first place.

And it wasn't the only Rome moment

The "Maree" clip was not even the couple's only viral beat from that premiere. A separate video showed Holland quietly helping Zendaya when her dress slipped during photos, gently turning her away from the cameras before anyone got a shot, as Yahoo and Comic Sands both noted. Two for two on the husband points that night.

Fans are going to get a lot more of this, by the way. The pair are out together for "Brand New Day" now and have "The Odyssey" coming too, which means the most private couple in Hollywood is about to be in public, side by side, for weeks. Watch the middle names.
