King Charles saw Archie and Lilibet at Highgrove on Friday for the first time in four years
Buckingham Palace confirmed the private gathering. No photos, no details, and no Prince William.

July 11, 2026King Charles spent Friday afternoon with two grandchildren he had not laid eyes on in four years.
Charles and Queen Camilla hosted Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Archie and Lilibet at Highgrove House, the King's private place in Gloucestershire, on July 10. ITV royal editor Chris Ship reported it first, and Buckingham Palace confirmed the gathering happened. Ship was told it was a "private family occasion," which is Palace for: you are getting no photos, no menu, and no seating chart.
Archie is 7. Lilibet is 5. The last time either of them was in a room with their grandfather was the Platinum Jubilee in 2022, back when Lilibet was one and Charles was not yet King. That is a long stretch of birthdays to make up in one afternoon in the countryside.
How everyone ended up at Highgrove
Harry flew to Britain alone on July 6 for the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham, where he spent part of Friday trying out the sports. Meghan and the kids were on a family holiday in Europe and came over separately to join him, per PEOPLE. They are not doing any public engagements. Meghan is in the country as a private citizen, and she is behaving like one.
Charles, meanwhile, had official business in Oxfordshire that day. Everyone finished their commitments, everyone drove to Gloucestershire, nobody tipped off a photographer. For this family, that is a small miracle.
The visit almost did not include the children at all. The Sussexes had been denied state-funded security for the trip, which made bringing Archie and Lilibet look unlikely right up until reports on July 9 said they were coming after all.
The brother-shaped hole
Prince William was not there. He spent Friday at the Royal Charity Polo Cup at Guards Polo Club in Windsor, where Kate turned up in gingham and gave him a kiss on the cheek after his team won, per E! News. Different county, different afternoon, no overlap. TMZ notes the brothers still are not speaking, and nothing about this weekend suggests that is changing.
It has also been a rough news week for Harry otherwise. He lost his privacy lawsuit against the Daily Mail's publisher on July 7, and the offer to put him up at Buckingham Palace during the trip was pulled before he landed.
What this actually is
A private lunch, not a treaty. Harry and Charles last saw each other in September 2025 at Clarence House for tea, and the year that followed was not exactly a warm one. What is different this time is the kids: Charles has now met Lilibet twice in her life, and the second time she could hold a conversation.
Nobody has announced a next step. Nobody has released a photo. Given the last four years, the family showing up at the same house on the same day and telling us almost nothing about it counts as progress.
