Bryce Dettloff and Trinity Tatum won Love Island USA season eight and split the $100,000

Peacock's biggest reality machine wrapped its eighth season Sunday night, and the couple America picked was the one that spent half the summer looking like they were about to friend-zone each other.

Bryce Dettloff and Trinity Tatum won Love Island USA season eight, host Ariana Madix announced at the end of a nearly two-hour finale on July 12. They take the $100,000 grand prize, split between them, per Peacock's format. The Hollywood Reporter and Variety both reported the result as viewers voted it.

The final four

Bryce, who turned 30 inside the villa, and Trinity, who is 22, coupled up in the June 2 premiere and then proceeded to do almost nothing dramatic for weeks, which on this show is practically a strategy. THR describes their run as a slow burn that only cracked open at Casa Amor, the annual loyalty stress test, after which they came back together, made it official, and coasted into the final as the couple nobody could find a reason to hate.

The winners' speeches were about what you would expect from two people who have just been handed a novelty check on television.

"I feel like I'm in a dream right now. I'm walking up here, I'm like, 'Is this fucking real?'"

That was Bryce, quoted by The Hollywood Reporter. Trinity's version: "I'm just so overwhelmed. I never would have expected in a million years I would be in this position right now." They told each other they loved each other. The crowd did the thing crowds do.

The season that kept getting away from Peacock

Season eight was not a smooth ride. Two Islanders, Alannah Keyser and Vasana Montgomery, were pulled mid-season after old social media videos surfaced of them using the N-word, per THR, which reported both have since apologized. That makes two straight seasons where the show has had to walk contestants out over resurfaced posts. The casting team is very good at finding chemistry. The vetting keeps finding the internet late.

None of it hurt the numbers. THR reported the season's first week topped the Nielsen streaming charts with the show's biggest premiere to date, then climbed another 40 percent in week two.

What's next

Peacock announced Sunday that the season eight reunion airs Aug. 31 at 9 p.m. ET, with Madix and Andy Cohen hosting. Love Island: Beyond the Villa has been renewed for a third season, arriving in 2027, with the cast to be named later this year.

So Trinity and Bryce get fifty grand each, a reunion couch in six weeks, and a spinoff waiting to see whether a slow burn survives contact with Los Angeles. Every episode of season eight is on Peacock.
