Ratatan Slips to October 15. The Patapon Successor Blames Online and Five Platforms.

Ratata Arts pushed the full 1.0 launch back 13 weeks to stabilize multiplayer and clear certification on PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, and PC.

Ratatan, the rhythm roguelike that a lot of people have been quietly treating as the real Patapon sequel, is not making its July 16 date. Developer Ratata Arts and publisher Game Source Entertainment have moved the full 1.0 launch to October 15 on PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, and PC. That is a 13-week slip.

The game has been in Early Access on PC, and the studio is pretty direct about why that matters here. Once players got their hands on it, the team kept finding things to fix, and the to-do list grew instead of shrank.

What pushed it back

The studio listed the usual end-of-project crunch (bug fixing, polish) plus two things worth calling out for a game built around playing together. Online support is one of them. Ratatan leans on multiplayer, and getting that stable is not the kind of thing you want to ship broken and patch later. The other is the sheer spread of platforms. Shipping 1.0 at once on PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, and PC means clearing certification on several different configurations, and that takes time even when the game is basically done.

Producer Kazuto Sakajiri, who worked on the Patapon games this one so obviously descends from, put it plainly in the studio's message:

In our initial development plan we didn't expect to do Early Access and then adjust the game to the level that we did based on that feedback. Of course, due to that feedback, Ratatan is even better than we planned. However, online support, building the game out for a large number of platforms, and improving the overall game experience has meant that we needed more development time.

He also thanked the Kickstarter backers who funded the project in the first place, and apologized to the people who have been waiting. Ratatan exists because that campaign hit, and Sakajiri did not pretend otherwise.

The short version

  • Old date: July 16, 2026
  • New date: October 15, 2026
  • Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, PC (Steam)
  • Status now: still in Early Access on PC

A delay is a delay, and nobody waiting on this one is thrilled about another three months. But "we need more time to make the online stable" is close to the best reason a co-op rhythm game can give you for slipping. The alternative is a launch week where the multiplayer falls over and the reviews are about netcode instead of the music. Ratata Arts looked at that and blinked. Hard to argue with it.
